Adventures with I Love Indonesia drove us to a small town charming and quiet atmosphere, namely Lumajang. One interesting thing we encountered the exoticism of its thanks to the growth of a Hindu religious community in this city, precisely in the District Senduro, which then could bring a peaceful feel of community life that barely resembles the Hindu religion in Bali.

This Hindu religious communities have places of worship called Pura Mandara Giri Semeru, which also serve as a religious tourist attraction in Lumajang. In addition to the Hindu community in Senduro, the temple is also frequently visited by the Hindu community from outside the area of East Java, including Bali, especially during religious holidays or during the ceremony also piodalan (temple anniversary) which is held every year around July. At this ceremony would seem the Hindu community from various regions that meet the temple area to pray and display a variety of arts, including Balinese art.
Located at the east foot of Mount Semeru, behind the founding of this temple there was an interesting story. Early establishment of Pura Mandara Giri Semeru in the District related to the ceremony Nuur Senduro Tirta, which begged the ceremony or the taking of holy water into Patirtaan Watu Kelosot at the foot of Mount Semeru by the Hindu people of Bali. Tirta Nuur ceremony is part of the Great Work Ekadasa Rudra ceremony at Pura Agung Besakih, the temple is located at the foot of Mount Agung in Bali. At the ceremony of holy water must be brought by the Hindus from the foot of Mount Semeru up to the Pura Agung Besakih. The ceremony was originally performed in March 1963, which then held again in 1979.
With the ceremony held on a regular basis, which involves both the Hindus of Bali and authentic Hindus around the area of Mount Semeru, it was decided to establish a sanctuary in the region in history declared a sacred area during this ancient Javanese. Although initially for establishment of the temple had rejected the Government because of its location in the vicinity of the settlement of non-Hindu communities, but in the end proved that the apparent existence of inter-religious harmony in the area around this temple.
The development process Pura Mandara Giri Semeru done gradually since the 1990's until now, and it is still visible in some parts of the region. Entering the main gate we see the magnificent temples as well as some Padmasana (a place to pray and put the dish) are large. There are parts of the temple called the Temple Bentar on one side and the Temple of Curly in the middle. Then getting into the area there are also some bale, which serves as a place of rest and storage of goods, such as stakes bale, bale gong, bale kulkul and gedong Simpen. Then there is also a pavilion, called the sacred hall that serves as a special kitchen and bale patandingan normally used for a particular meeting.
At the time of our visit is not allowed to enter the main area is used as a place of religious ceremony, but from the outside looks great and padmanabha bale which guards the main temple is a sacred building and central. Regions act also extended to the lower east side and is equipped with a bale-bale pura support activities, such as pasraman Sulinggih, bale bale Simpen equipment and two pagibungan addition to the kitchen, then on the south side looks Wantilan, a kind of magnificent buildings and spacious hall .
Pura Mandara Giri Semeru as a religious tourist attraction with unique architecture Hindus a very strong showing greatness that add uniqueness Lumajang, to deserve to be visited and studied. The presence of this temple also shows the religious harmony of exemplary, that the Hindu community to be accepted both in East Java known as a region with a strong Muslim community in Java.
